I played a lot of games last year! It was actually a personal best for me. This list isn't exhaustive–it only includes games I rolled credits on so the games skew shorter, and I'm sure I missed some I played on itch.io since they don't have a yearly roundup feature. But it gives you a little glimpse into my gaming taste and habits.
Spiritfarer: Beautiful story and charming gameplay that gets a little grind-y in the late game.
Oxenfree: There's nothing I love more than teens talking about their feelings and getting in over their head with the supernatural.
Oxenfree 2: More of the same, but expanded and with an interesting twist.
Disco Elysium: Absolutely overwritten and I love it for it.
Jusant: Lovely gameplay, but I found myself wanting a little more story meat on those bones.
Firewatch: Yes, the ending is underwhelming, but I like it that way.
Tangle Tower: A delightful little mystery with colorful characters.
Life is Strange: True Colors: My favorite in the series but harder to enjoy because of the reports about the toxic studio environment.
It Takes Two: While I loved the gameplay and generally had a great time playing with my partner, the story didn't hit for me, and actually detracted from the whole experience.
A Short Hike: So cute and well-made and has a wonderful ending!
What Remains of Edith Finch: I truly loved this game up until the ending, which left me feeling like I'd missed something.
Sayonara Wild Hearts: A lovely way to spend a couple hours but nothing I'm excited about.
Remnant II: It challenged my thumbs more than any other on this list and I loved the varied biomes and creatures, but I wanted more out of the story.
Slay the Princess: Similar to What Remains of Edith Finch, I thoroughly enjoyed this game but the ending lost me.
Before Your Eyes: Fascinating mechanic but it dried out my eyes so I didn't get full enjoyment of it.
Bury me, my love: Important, heartbreaking, and beautifully executed.
Journey: Traveling with an anonymous other player was a wonderful and profound experience.
The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood: Wonderful story and gameplay but I think it lost itself partway through. (I write more about it here.)
Night in the Woods: A very special game that I will be processing for years to come.
Caravan SandWitch: A quality story with mechanics that made my brain go brrrrrr.
